Spanish Fort Shuts Out Blount 16-0 in Southbound Sports Game of the Week

Toros extend winning streak to three games, improve to 4-1 with road victory over Leopards.

EIGHT MILE, Ala. — Spanish Fort continued its winning ways Friday night, September 18, shutting out Blount 16-0 in the Southbound Sports Game of the Week.

The Toros traveled to Eight Mile and delivered a defensive performance that kept the Leopards off the scoreboard for all four quarters. The victory improved Spanish Fort’s overall record to 4-1, while Blount dropped to 2-3 following its second consecutive loss.

Spanish Fort’s Defense Takes Center Stage

Entering Friday’s matchup, one of the biggest questions was whether Spanish Fort could contain Blount’s rushing attack.

The Leopards entered the contest averaging more than 200 rushing yards per game, with junior running back Keevaughn Johnson serving as the centerpiece of the offense.

Spanish Fort answered the challenge by keeping Blount off the scoreboard.

The shutout marked the Toros’ second consecutive game without allowing a point, following their 28-0 victory over Baldwin County on September 11. Spanish Fort has now held its last three opponents to just six combined points.

The defensive effort allowed the Toros to secure the victory without needing a high-scoring offensive performance.

Toros Continue Their Winning Streak

Spanish Fort entered the matchup riding consecutive victories over Elberta and Baldwin County after suffering its only loss of the season against Foley.

Friday’s 16-0 victory extended that winning streak to three games and kept the Toros unbeaten in Class 5A, Region 1 competition.

Spanish Fort now stands at 4-1 overall and 3-0 in region play.

The Toros have also continued their recent success against Blount. Spanish Fort defeated the Leopards 41-22 during the 2025 season before adding Friday night’s shutout victory.

Blount Looks to Regroup

For Blount, Friday’s loss came one week after a narrow 30-29 overtime defeat against Gulf Shores.

The Leopards entered the Spanish Fort matchup looking to rebound from that setback, but were unable to generate enough offense to find the end zone.

After opening the season with a loss to Vigor, Blount had responded with victories over B.C. Rain and Murphy before dropping consecutive region contests to Gulf Shores and Spanish Fort.

The Leopards now sit at 2-3 overall and 1-2 in region competition.

With an open week ahead, Blount will have additional preparation time before returning to action against Theodore on October 2.

Both programs will have a bye week before returning to region competition on Friday, October 2.

Spanish Fort will return home to host Murphy, looking to extend its winning streak and maintain its unbeaten region record.

Blount will also be at home, hosting Theodore in an important region matchup as the Leopards look to get back into the win column.

For Spanish Fort, Friday’s victory adds another shutout to an impressive defensive stretch and keeps the Toros moving forward in the Class 5A, Region 1 race.

For Blount, the focus shifts to regrouping during the open week and preparing for the remainder of its region schedule.
