Christian Segar accounts for three touchdowns as the Trojans overcome a 14-point deficit to remain unbeaten in region play.
FOLEY, Ala. — Daphne found itself facing an early two-touchdown deficit Thursday night, but the Trojans responded with 24 points to defeat Foley 24-17 in a pivotal Class 6A, Region 1 matchup.
The victory marked Daphne’s sixth consecutive win, improving the Trojans to 6-1 overall and keeping them undefeated in region competition. Foley, which entered the contest riding a three-game winning streak, fell to 4-3.
The Lions wasted little time establishing momentum on their home field, jumping out to a 14-0 lead in the opening quarter. With Foley threatening to hand Daphne its first region loss of the season, the Trojans faced one of their toughest challenges since their season-opening defeat to Spanish Fort.
Daphne answered behind quarterback Christian Segar, who helped lead the comeback with another productive performance through the air.
Segar finished with 237 passing yards and two touchdowns while adding a rushing score, accounting for all three of Daphne’s touchdowns. Wide receiver Tyler Buchanan provided a major spark in the passing game, recording 128 receiving yards and a touchdown.
After surrendering 14 first-quarter points, Daphne’s defense settled in and limited Foley to just three points over the remainder of the contest. That defensive turnaround allowed the Trojans to erase the early deficit and eventually secure the seven-point victory.
For Foley, quarterback Judah Spencer threw for 103 yards and a touchdown. Wide receiver Jaxson Dixon led the Lions’ receiving attack with 62 yards and a touchdown, while Bryson Garcia contributed 88 rushing yards.
The loss snapped Foley’s three-game winning streak and ended a five-game home winning streak dating back to last season.
For Daphne, Thursday’s comeback represented another important step in a season that has continued to gain momentum. Since falling to Spanish Fort in the season opener, the Trojans have responded with six consecutive victories, including region wins over Baker, Davidson, Robertsdale and now Foley.
The Trojans have demonstrated an ability to win in different ways throughout that stretch, from decisive victories to closely contested matchups. Thursday’s result added another example, as Daphne overcame its largest early deficit of the season to leave Foley with a win.
With the regular season entering its final weeks, Daphne remains in a strong position in the Region 1 race.
