DAPHNE, Ala. — Down 10 points at halftime and 13 entering the fourth quarter, Daphne needed a response Friday night. The Trojans delivered, scoring 15 unanswered points in the final period to defeat Baker 22-19 in a pivotal Class 6A, Region 1 matchup.
The victory marked Daphne’s third consecutive win and improved the Trojans to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in region play. Baker dropped to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the region.
Baker Controls the First Half
Neither offense found the end zone in the opening quarter, but Baker established control in the second.
The Hornets put 10 points on the board before halftime, taking a 10-0 lead into the locker room while holding Daphne scoreless through the first two quarters.
Baker quarterback T. Graham completed 16 of 20 passes for 132 yards in the contest, while running back Gavin Wood provided production on the ground with 75 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries.
Wide receiver J. Pryor added nine receptions for 67 yards, giving the Hornets another offensive contributor.
Segar Leads the Second-Half Charge
Daphne finally broke through in the third quarter, scoring its first touchdown to cut the deficit to 10-7.
Baker answered with a field goal, extending its advantage to 13-7 heading into the final period.
That set the stage for Daphne’s comeback.
Quarterback Christian Segar finished the night completing 20 of 32 passes for 237 yards and three touchdowns. The Trojans found their rhythm in the passing game and produced 15 fourth-quarter points, turning a six-point deficit into a three-point victory.
Running back Tay Young emerged as a key receiving threat, hauling in eight passes for 80 yards and a touchdown.
The fourth-quarter surge completed the comeback as Daphne escaped with a 22-19 victory.
A Significant Region Victory
The result gives Daphne an important early advantage in the Class 6A, Region 1 race.
After falling to Spanish Fort in its season opener, Daphne has responded with three straight victories, including consecutive region wins over Alma Bryant and Baker.
The Trojans have now defeated the Hornets in back-to-back seasons, following last year’s 34-20 victory in Mobile.
For Baker, the loss ends a two-game winning streak that included victories over Theodore and Davidson.
Despite the setback, the Hornets remain in the early stages of region play with opportunities ahead to improve their position.

Daphne returns home Friday, September 18, to host Davidson, looking to extend its winning streak to four games and remain unbeaten in region play.
Baker travels to Foley for another region matchup as the Hornets look to bounce back.
Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m.
